Description
The male is a deep purple blue on the upperside whilst the female is a dull brown. The hindwing possesses a few very fine tails which are an extension of the cilia. The underside is a earthy grey and there are white edged bands. On the hindwing, there is an orange-crowned black spot.

Habitat & Habits
The Ciliate Blue is relatively common in Singapore, and can be found both in and outside the nature reserves. Males of the species can sometimes be found congregated at moist spots on the forest floor. The butterfly is a rapid flyer and usually stops to rest with its wings folded closed.

Early Stages
The life history of the species is rather unique, with the caterpillar being dependent on the Fire Ant or Kerengga (Oecophylla smaragdina) for survival. The known host plant for this species is Saraca thaipingensis.
